Websphere Admin

This is a Jr Level position and only requires 1-2 years experience with Websphere.  Please review details below.  The perm salary is 50-55k.

Support WebSphere Application Servers on Linux.  Installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting of web servers, edge servers, application servers and LDAP servers.

  • Performance tuning of WebSphere Application server and IBM HTTP server for optimal performance based on user load.
  • Perform server clustering for load balancing and failover. Work with others to ensure session rollover.
  • Monitor performance and provide ongoing configuration and tuning adjustments.
  • Build scripts for task automation, build support, scheduling, file clean-up etc.
  • Configure connection pools for external data sources, including SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of port communication infrastructure required through firewalls for distributed HTTP server and WebSphere.
  • General knowledge of all logs related to the product and ability to identify and analyze logs to find relevant errors pertaining to the product and applications.
  • Investigation, identification and installation of product fixes and upgrades.
  • Setting up and performing various housekeeping jobs and tasks to minimize downtime and system disruptions.
  • Deploy .ear and .war file applications
  • Identify and maintain metrics on system and application performance. Analyze data and take action on any issues indicated by the metrics.
  • Identification of bottlenecks in system and capacity planning to eliminate constraints in capacity.
  • Help design logical and physical WebSphere and HTTP architecture, including WebSphere instances, clusters, nodes, load balancing, and plug-ins, URLs, and SSL certificates.
  • Assist network team in maintaining availability, performance, and security.
  • Document system and administrative procedures.
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery for systems
  • Provide analytical support to development projects and the maintenance of existing applications and interact with business unit application owners to resolve performance and end-user issues.
  • Work closely with development teams and architects to help design application architectures based on the WebSphere platform.
  • Work with vendors as necessary (IBM, contractors, etc.) to troubleshoot problems, upgrade software and to develop solutions to improve application performance.
